The funeral business owned by the Gow family has its root in the convict days of 1840; started by Andrew Petrie, often referred to as Queensland's first free settler.

The first book of its type to be published in Queensland, it explores the historical journey of Queensland's first funeral business from its beginnings in 1840 to 2009. It also takes a look at a potted history of some of the other funeral businesses that have been established along the way.
